2025 Senior and Veteran Tax Work-Off Program Applications Available
NORTHAMPTON - The City of Northampton is now accepting Senior and Veteran Tax Work-Off applications for the 2025 program year. In FY2023, 41 eligible seniors and veterans participated in the program providing quality volunteer services to city departments while earning $43,272 in property tax relief. In the current FY2024 program, which ends October 31, 2024, there are 49 participants. This valued program provides an opportunity for eligible residents in the community to share their skills and expertise to benefit the city while earning tax credits toward their property taxes.
The Senior Citizen Tax Work-Off Program is open to seniors age 60 and older, who own property in and pay real estate taxes to the City of Northampton. Income limits for the 2024 program follow the Massachusetts Median Income levels. The Veteran Tax Work-Off Program is open to veterans, (as defined by MGL Chapter 4 §7 clause 43), regardless of income limits, who own property in and pay real estate taxes to the City of Northampton. The Senior Tax Work-Off program participants must complete 133.33 hours of volunteer service to receive the full $2,000 tax credit. The Veterans Tax Work-Off program offers a maximum of $1,500 in tax credit, which requires 100 hours of volunteer service. The program is set to run from January 1, 2025, to October 31, 2025.
Applications for interested seniors and veterans will be available on October 7, 2024.  Applications may be downloaded from the website or may be picked up in person at the Assessor’s Office, Senior Center, or Veterans Services Office. Completed applications must be submitted by Friday, November 15, 2024.
